All but a fizzle

Happy New Year from Paris :)

Well I hope you all had a fun night. We had fun night but it was a bit of a fizzle. Philly, Steve (our friends), Kylie and I went down to Champs Elysees where we could see the Arc de Triomphe, Louvre and Eiffel Tower thinking we would be able to see the fireworks to see the new year in. But sadly their were none. You may think that we missed them as we didn't know exactly where they were - being tourists and all, but there were a couple of hundred thousand people lining the street in our same predicament. No countdown or anything, everybody was waiting for the big show that didn't eventuate. So we walked home avoiding random little fireworks and went to bed. Woop woop!!!

Paris has been fun times. It has been so nice to stay with Philly and Steve (in their friends apartment) for 3 days who are sadly leaving us tonight. We have a few more days left in Paris by ourselves before we head off to Rome. The highlight of Paris has to be in Montmartre - the area that has the Sacre-Coeur and Moulin Rouge. It had cute little streets and stores and felt like Paris should be. The major tourist sites like the Louvre and Eiffel Tower were so over crowded - it slightly takes away from there beauty. And the other highlight was the crepes - chocolate and banana filled crepes - oh so delicious. Mmmm, they will be missed.

We had a few days in Newcastle before we got to Paris which was awesome. We didn't look around Newcastle that much as we were about 30 minutes out of the city staying with my Dad's relatives. Also with it getting dark at 3:30pm didn't help either. It was great to see my extended family who I had never meet, see where my Dad grew up (and hear stories of my dad as a child from my great Aunt) and to visit a coal mining museum (similar to one my Grandad used to work in). Many great memories to take home. A canny time :)

Well it is now time for us to venture out back into the city and find our budget hotel for the next few nights. Say hi to the sun for me, I'm missing it a little.

Missed you Christmas too. Pity about New Years. We even had fireworks around here. Sharon joined us for New Years dinner.

Bro! You should have a look around for some fireworks of your own, we scored a bunch of tom thumbs and double happies, and some others that were seriously about 10 times the size of double happies, more like sticks of TNT! Much fun. Still so close, much love back at ya!

They did seem to have cooler fireworks in Paris too than back in NZ. Didn't go looking for any though. Will leave the mayhem to you Mike :)
